Kweichow Moutai, the premium baijiu producer, has topped the 2022 Hurun Brands List for the fifth year in a row, outperforming technology giants and social media platforms during a volatile year for the Chinese market. The brand rankings, released on Monday, revealed that Kweichow Moutai was the most valuable Chinese brand, with a brand value of over RMB 1 trillion ($145.2 billion), according to openly available economic data and consumer surveys.
Kweichow Moutai’s brand value was equivalent to the total value of the next six brands on the list, which included Wuliangye Yibin, China Tobacco, Douyin, WeChat and Tencent Holdings, and JD.com. The brand’s value has continued to grow due to its premium reputation and strong stock performance, making it one of the most valuable stocks in China.
The Hurun rankings have been calculated based on the market value of listed companies, taking into account their stocks’ closing prices on July 29th of last year, and their price-to-earnings ratios for private firms. Kweichow Moutai’s consistent dominance in the rankings underscores the continued strength of Chinese consumer firms in the market, despite the challenging economic conditions of the past year.
